Elon Musk’s xAI launches ChatGPT rival(M)
Elon Musk’s xAI has launched its own artificial intelligence (AI) engine and chatbot to take on OpenAI, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft. Called “Grok”, the AI is modelled after the Douglas Adams novel The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxyf or its intention to answer almost anything and to suggest what questions to ask. The word itself is a neologism first featured in Robert A. Heinlein’s 1961 sci-fi novel Stranger in a Strange Land. Its definition is complex and nuanced, but the Oxford English Dictionary defines it as “to understand intuitively or by empathy”, “to empathise or communicate sympathetically”, or to “experience enjoyment”.
